How to enable SSH (Shell) in cPanel
Before reading the article you should know that you need WHM access privileges, if you haven’t WHM access then you should contact your hosting provider support to enable SSH for you.
Enabling SSH access allows for:
- Remote hosting control using command lines.
- The ability to add, remove, edit, backup, and restore hosting files and directories
- The easy import and export of your database
- An established connection between 2 different servers
to enable SSH for your cPanel account follow these steps:
1- Login to WHM
2- go to search box in Left Menu and type (Manage Shell Access) or press on Manage Shell Access link.
3- Find the cPanel user that you need to activate SSH for it.
4- Select the radio button for “Normal Shell” or “Jailed shell” for the cPanel user
Jailshell is more secure by disallowing the execution of some commands that may be harmful to the server and should be the go-to option for allowing shell access.
Once you’ve enabled shell access, you should then be able to login to the cPanel via SSH.
hope it’s easy for you!
